Autobahn Window Tint No-Fault Warranty Just Went Up: What It Means for Cracked Windshields

Autobahn just raised the no-fault credit on its window tint from a flat $75 to as much as $350, depending on the film. For anyone who has had a windshield crack, that is a big change. Re-tinting a replacement windshield used to come entirely out of your pocket, and it can now cost $100 or less.

This article covers what the Autobahn tint warranty covers, how the new no-fault credit works on windshields and other single windows, and why we install Autobahn Ceramic i3 or above on windshields. We install window tint for drivers in Temple, Killeen, and across Central Texas.

What Is a No-Fault Warranty for Window Tint?

A standard window tint warranty covers defects in the film itself. For window tint, that means problems like bubbling, yellowing, and purpling. Almost every film manufacturer offers some version of that coverage.

A no-fault warranty covers something different: damage that is outside the manufacturer's warranty. Autobahn gives you a one-time no-fault credit toward replacing film that gets damaged for some other reason. As far as we know, Autobahn is the only film manufacturer, for window tint or paint protection film, that offers one.

The credit works alongside the Autobahn tint lifetime warranty. The lifetime warranty still covers defects in the film, and the no-fault credit steps in for the things it does not cover.

What Changed: The Window Tint Credit Is Now Up to $350

Until now, the no-fault credit on Autobahn window tint was a flat $75, no matter which film you chose. That generally covered a single window or so. The credit now scales with the film:

  • Autobahn Black (non-ceramic): $75, unchanged
  • Autobahn Black Ceramic: $150
  • Autobahn Ceramic i3: $250
  • Autobahn Ceramic i3 Plus: $350

The better the ceramic window tint, the bigger the safety net. If you are weighing film options, the credit is one more thing to factor in alongside heat rejection and clarity. Our window tint packages page lays out the options, and about Autobahn window tint covers the film itself.

Why a Cracked Windshield Used to Mean Paying Full Price Again

Window tint is applied to the glass. When a windshield cracks and has to be replaced, the tint on the old glass goes with it, and the replacement glass needs to be tinted again. In Texas, that has usually meant paying for the tint a second time, with the whole cost on you.

A $75 credit never made much of a dent in that. It was often enough to replace one single window, but not a windshield. Windshield tint costs more: we typically charge $350 out the door, and we only install Autobahn Ceramic i3 or above on windshields.

So someone who had just paid to replace a cracked windshield was facing another bill at nearly full price.

How the No-Fault Credit Changes the Cost of Re-Tinting a Windshield

With the higher credit, the math looks very different. Take a windshield tint that costs $350:

  • With Ceramic i3: the $250 credit brings your cost down to about $100.
  • With Ceramic i3 Plus: the credit goes up to $350.

For a driver who has already paid to replace a cracked windshield, that is a meaningful difference. What used to be a second large bill is now a small one.

One thing to be clear on: the credit goes toward re-tinting the new windshield. It does not pay for the glass or the windshield replacement itself.

Break-Ins and Other Single-Window Damage Are Covered Too

Windshields are the most expensive single piece of glass to re-tint, but the credit is not limited to them. If something happens to any other single window, such as a break-in, the credit would basically cover the tint on it.

The old $75 credit was often enough for one window. With Ceramic i3 at $250 and Ceramic i3 Plus at $350, it goes much further. It is a one-time credit, so it is worth knowing it is there before you need it.

Why We Install Ceramic i3 or Above on Windshields

On windshields, we only install Autobahn Ceramic i3 or above. That is our standard for the windshield, and it also happens to be the point where the no-fault credit becomes large enough to matter: $250 with Ceramic i3 and $350 with Ceramic i3 Plus.

So choosing the right film for your windshield is also choosing the protection that comes with it. If you want to compare the tiers side by side, start with our window tint packages page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Autobahn window tint no-fault warranty cover?

It gives you a one-time credit toward replacing tint that is damaged for reasons outside the manufacturer's warranty, such as a cracked windshield that has to be replaced or a break-in. The standard warranty covers defects in the film like bubbling, yellowing, and purpling.

How much is the Autobahn tint no-fault credit?

It depends on the film: $75 for Autobahn Black, $150 for Black Ceramic, $250 for Ceramic i3, and $350 for Ceramic i3 Plus.

Does the no-fault warranty cover a cracked windshield?

It covers the cost of re-tinting the new windshield, up to the credit for your film. It does not pay for the replacement glass.

Is the no-fault credit the same as the lifetime warranty?

No. The Autobahn tint lifetime warranty covers defects in the film. The no-fault credit is a separate, one-time credit for damage the lifetime warranty does not cover.

Can I use the no-fault credit more than once?

The credit is one-time. Ask us about the details for your film when you book.
