If you are wondering whether window tint will keep your car cool when it sits outside all day in 100° heat, the honest answer is no. Window tint helps in real ways, but it cannot turn a car parked in direct Texas sunlight into a cool one.
We would rather set expectations before you spend money than have you disappointed afterward. This article explains what window tint does and does not do about heat, and why. We install ceramic window tint for drivers in Coppperas Cove, TX and across Central Texas.
Window tint will cool your car down. It will not keep a car cool after it has been parked in direct sun for hours. Those are two different things, and most of the disappointment comes from expecting the second one.
If your car sits outside all day in a Texas summer, it is going to be hot when you get in. What tint changes is what happens next.
The best example I have is my own car. It was 102° out, and my car sat in direct sunlight at the shop all day, six hours or more. When I got in to head to an appointment, it was hot, and it took a couple of minutes to cool down.
That is what tint does for you. It cools the car down, but it does not make sure the car is completely cool after a day in the sun.
Now compare that to the drive afterward. I had been at my appointment for about an hour to an hour and a half, and after driving for only about a minute, the car was already cool.
So tint does make a difference, just not the one many people expect. A car with window tint definitely cools off faster once you get in and start driving.
That is the real benefit to count on. You may still open the door to a hot car, but you will not be sitting in it for long.
The other benefit is for your air conditioning. Window tint makes the AC work less hard to keep up with the heat.
In my own car, at 102°, I do not even have the AC maxed out. I have it sitting at about six out of eight.
Even if you took the top-of-the-line film we offer, Autobahn Ceramic i3 Plus, and doubled it up, you would still be sitting in a metal box. Even if you blacked out every window, it would still be a metal box with no air moving through it.
Think about a shipping container. Open one in the middle of the day and it is extremely hot, and it has no windows at all. It is a big steel box sitting in the sun. A car is the same idea. Most of our cars are built from steel and aluminum, and a car sitting in the sun is still a big metal object absorbing heat.
Color makes it worse. A darker colored vehicle attracts additional heat on top of being metal, and in Texas at 102°, that adds up.
Here is how we set expectations with every client:
If that is what you are looking for, window tint delivers it. If you are expecting a car that stays cool all day in direct sunlight, no window tint can do that.
When you are choosing a film, keep in mind that how dark a tint is and how much heat it handles are different things. Our guide to
window tint percentages covers how the two compare.
We would rather you know what tint will and will not do before you book. If you are in Harker Heights and have questions about what to expect for your car, get in touch and we will walk you through it.

It helps your car cool down faster, but it will not keep a car cool after it has been parked in direct sun all day. Expect a hot car when you get in, then a faster cooldown once you start driving.
Yes. In 102° heat, a car that has sat in direct sunlight for six hours or more will be hot when you get in, even with tint. In our experience it takes a couple of minutes to cool down.
Yes. With window tint, the AC does not have to work as hard to keep up. In 102° weather, we do not even have the AC maxed out in our own tinted car.
Because a car is still a big metal object sitting in the sun. Even the top-of-the-line film cannot change that, and a car with no windows at all, like a shipping container, would still get extremely hot.
Yes. A darker colored vehicle attracts additional heat on top of the heat that comes from being metal, so expect it to get hotter in the sun than a lighter car.
